I believe the program I have created can solve the problem of how to teach math concepts through play. It provides a clear and progressive framework but also needs the commitment of a parent or teacher to guide, direct and pose the challenges that will create a stimulating, stress free but highly challenging learning environment. Every child learns at a different rate, but it has important to remember that all children should be able to grasp similar concepts once they have completed first grade math. Without the ability to count, add, subtract and understand basic relationships between all three, progression to higher math becomes difficult. Though online math games can not be used to teach everything a child needs to know, they can be an invaluable tool when it comes to augmenting what is learned in the classroom. Just because your child will be playing fun online games does not mean the same value will not be there. Create a comfortable study zone. Turn off outside distractions such as cell phones, radios or TVs. Make sure your child is not tired or hungry so that he or she can focus all attention on learning. Also try to keep the lessons consistent with what is being learned in school. A quick chat with the teacher or signing up for an online newsletter from the classroom are ways to keep tabs on the lesson plans. Since 3rd grade math relies on the concepts that were learned during kindergarten, first and second grades, do not be afraid to start your child at a lower level. With adaptive learning, the programs will not move on to the next level until your child has a firm grasp on the current material. Learning games also give you an opportunity to work with your child at home, helping to boost his or her grasp of basic kindergarten math concepts. The use of digital learning games to teach kindergarten math is by no means a stand-in for traditional education. However, when kids are presented with a fun, interactive learning environment in their own homes, they can build skills and get a deeper understanding of the concepts that will lead to better classroom performance and a more positive school experience.
